A student at Iqra University (Karachi-Pakistan) has developed a glucose measuring device that provides accurate blood glucose results without having to puncture and draw blood from patients. The device also helps measure the pulse rate.
University student Muhammad Faizan has called this device a “non-invasive blood test.” It took two years of work and research to develop this instrument. This manual device comprises an infrared sensor, LED, photodiode, IC and other circuits.
The device can really make a difference in the lives of people with diabetes. Currently, about 30 to 40 million people suffer from diabetes in Pakistan. It will make blood tests easier for people who have to check their glucose levels more than once a day.
Another good thing about this device is that it is economical and only costs Rs. 1500. The device contains a round box with infrared diodes and sensors. When a person puts a finger in this box, the light falls on it and the screen shows the level of blood sugar.
Faizan began developing this device two years ago under the guidance of Dr. Irfan Anis.
