Is Alkaline Water is Really Good for Health

You feel thirsty, fill a glass of water and drink it. The thirst died down! Have you ever thought about what enters your body to take you to the process? While you know you are thirsty after strenuous physical activity, you may not know why that glass of water is so satisfying.

Up to 60% of the adult human body is water. Our bodies depend on a balance of fluids, blood vitamins, minerals, hormones and much more. Any imbalance can cause dehydration or overhydration, which tells the body to maintain fluid intake or release any excess fluid.

While it is clear that hydration can help lubricate and cushion joints, facilitate digestion and blood flow, eliminate waste and keep your immune system healthy, educate yourself about exactly what is in that cup, can or bottle of water before Drinking it is essential to make the right choice.

What is alkaline water?

The growing trend of this smart water with boosted pH levels worldwide has made people talk about how it is a healthier option than typical bottled water.

In simple terms, it is water that has pH levels greater than 7. pH is a central measurable parameter of our body’s well-being, such as blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels. It is a scale used to measure the acidity or alkalinity of a solution. The pH of pure water is 7, in general, water with a pH below 7 is considered acidic and a pH above 7 is considered basic or alkaline.

The higher the pH level, the more alkaline or basic the liquid is, the lower the pH level, the more acidic it is. Balanced pH levels allow the human body to function as best it can with its biochemical capacity. Alkaline water helps eliminate acid content and hydrates your body.

Why is alkaline water a healthier option?

To understand how a healthier option is, we need to understand how the human body works. In simple terms, our body strives to maintain a balance called homeostasis. Homeostasis is the state of constant internal physical and chemical conditions maintained by human bodies. This dynamic state of equilibrium is the optimal operating condition for our bodies and includes many variables, such as body temperature and fluid balance, which are maintained within certain preset limits.

While very high alkaline levels are not good for us, high acid levels are extremely dangerous for the body. At present, our diet is generally full of refined sugars, hydrogenated oils, excess sodium, high fructose content, chemical additives, pesticides and hyper-processed foods that can contribute to an overproduction of acid that alters the ideal pH levels and promoting a body environment where diseases can thrive.

In our fast-paced life today, we eat all kinds of foods that are extremely acidic, which is why nutritionists and diet experts around the world emphasize the importance of a diet that can balance the alkalinity level of our bodies.

A well-balanced diet that is rich in fresh fruits and vegetables and low in grains, toxic processed foods, sugar, and meat, along with alkaline water will maintain the perfect pH levels for a healthy body.

Prevention is always better than cure, and in a country like Pakistan where we still have to give priority to “health,” it is time for us to start educating ourselves about what could be the starting point. A healthy lifestyle is influenced by healthy air, healthy water, a balanced diet rich in fiber, adequate sleep, regular physical exercise, and stress-free environments. Let’s start with something as simple as water, which is clean, rich in minerals and alkaline.
